Care of Your Tattoo

Once you've got your beautiful piece of art work on your body, there's more you need to do so it will continue to be beautiful. You need to take good care of it. Your tattoo artist should tell you how to care for it when you leave the parlor. Here are some tips on the proper tattoo care to preserve the radiance and beauty of your tattoo.

Remember that your tattoo is an open wound and should be treated as such. Make sure you keep your bandage in place for at least three hours. When caring for your tattoo, remember it is a work of art, but it is also an open wound and needs to be treated and cared for as such. Always wash your hands before caring for your tattoo. When you do remove the bandage to let the wound dry, do not put it back on.

To wash your tattoo, let warm water run over the area and gently wash it with mild soap. DO NOT SCRUB! Pat it dry. If it starts to flake, do not try to scrub it, let your body heal naturally.

Anti-bacterial ointment helps moisturize and prevent infection. Ask your tattoo artist to recommend an ointment if they don't supply one. They should also recommend a lotion to use after the area has healed. As with all wounds, when it starts to heal, it will start to itch. Scratching the tattoo can damage it, so you must endure this second round of torture.

Don't forget your sunblock. The sun can easily fade a new tattoo. When going out in the sun use sunblock to avoid burning and fading of your tattoo.
